2011 Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest Rules
The certified first place winner will have the opportunity to enter an apple pie in the Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest at the 2012 Pennsylvania State Farm Show.

1.  Each pie will be judged on the following basis:  Overall Appearance:  15 points;  Crust color, flavor, texture, doneness:  20 points;  Flavor:  30 points;  Filling consistency, doneness, moistness, flavor:  25 points;  Creativity:  10 points.
Creativity is essential to a varied competition.  Do not limit your contest to a "traditional" two-crusted apple pie.  We are looking for a variety of fillings in the pies;  the pie must include at least 60% apples in the filling.
2.  A neatly handwritten or typed recipe for the pie and pie crust must be submitted on a standard 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper.  Please use one side only.  The recipe will also need to be submitted when entering at the Farm Show.  Entrant's name, address, and phone number must be printed on the back side of the page.
3.  Refrigeration is not available at the fair or PA Farm Show.  Entries that require refrigeration after baking must indicate so in the recipe.  Those entries will not be sold, auctioned or otherwise distributed for consumption after judging for food safety reasons.
4.  Each fair will certify the winning apple pie baker and this person will be eligible to enter the state competition at the
2012 Farm Show.

NOTE:  If an individual is the certified winner at more than one event, that individual will have to choose which fair he / she will represent and will notify that fair so the fair can certify the next place winner as its official entry.  We are trying to encourage participation from as many fairs and individuals as we can for the growing PA Farm Show event.  Each fair should also take the responsibility to inquire of the winning contestant as whether he / she is a winner at another fair and handle it accordingly.

Free web design, web templates, web layouts, and website resources!

Premiums for the 2012 PA Farm Show competition will be as follows:                                                                                          1st - $160.00     2nd - $100.00     3rd - $70.00     4th - $40.00     5th - $35.00
