BAND APPLICATION

 

Dear Band Director,

 

Spring is almost here and once again we are working hard to continue our long standing tradition of putting together an outstanding parade and band competition.  Part of this tradition is having some of the area's finest marching bands compete against each other for trophies, but more importantly, to be selected from all participants as the overall winner and perform as "Honor band" in next year's parade.

For Those of you that have either never participated, or have not participated for some time, let me give you the highlights of our competition and parade.

    (1)  The Parade - The parade is formed at the New Holland Community Park and passes through the streets of New Holland over a distance of approximately 3 miles, ending at the formation point.  The first band passes by the starting point at 7:00 PM and the last band passes by the judges stand at the end of the parade about 9:30 PM.

    (2)  Judging - Judging is performed by judges from the Mid Atlantic Judges Association.

    (3)  Classes Categories - You may enter into class A, B, or C, depending on what you believe the development level of your band to be.  There are prizes in each class for best featured twirler, band front, music and from all classes, "Best Overall Band".  The band named "Best Overall Band" receives the winners cup, but more importantly, returns next year as "Honor Band" and has the opportunity to give a 15 minute performance for the crowd at the judges stand.

    (4)  Expense Reimbursement - Sponsorship funds are available to cover all or part of your expenses.

Participation in our parade will again be handled on a "first come, first served" basis, so get your application in early.  The Host Band, Garden Spot High School, and last year's "Honor Band", Oley Valley High School, will be automatically entered.  I will do my best to accommodate your needs and will greatly appreciate your cooperation.  I perform the duty of Parade Coordinator as a volunteer, on my own time, so if I need to call you, it will probably be in the evening.  Please be sure to include daytime and evening phone numbers on the application form.  

Please complete the application form below and return to me.  Your help by returning your application early will be appreciated.  Even if you cannot attend, or are not interested in participating, please indicate that on the form by checking the appropriate box and return it to me.  This will help in planning the parade.  I hope you will consider competing in our Spectacle of Bands Parade.
